More than a dozen Community volunteers helped restore a home in the Harrisburg area east of downtown Houston. Diontre grew up as the youngest of five children. She was rich in the fact that she was surrounded by family, but they were not well off.  Her mom did not have a high school diploma and never held a steady job. The principal told her she could not graduate. Diontre was devastated and upset with herself. She met with the principal and a counselor to work out a plan. Video: CareerReady Scholar Raul Aguirre

Raul was awarded the CareerReady Scholarship when he was a 2018 high school senior at AAMA Sanchez Charter School. Through CareerReady, Raul was able to complete the A+ IT program at Houston Community College. With the help of his Life Coach, Raul created his resume and started applying for jobs. It was difficult to find a job he was eligible for because he had no work experience. To give him hands-on work experience, Community created an entry level apprenticeship called CareerReady 2.0 in their IT department. This work experience gave Raul the opportunity to shine and improve his skill set. The mentorship he received from his supervisors motivated him to go back to school and further his education.
