Community Conversations: Helping Our Students through the COVID-19 Pandemic

On May 4, 2021, Greater Houston area education experts joined our fourth Community Conversations live event discussing the far-reaching impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on students.

For this panel, we were joined by

  • Tysheka McKinnie, Assistant Principal, Goodman ACE Elementary School, in the Aldine Independent School District
  • Adeeb Barqawi, President and CEO of ProUnitas, a Texas nonprofit connecting students for life resources. Adeeb was a physics teacher at Kashmere High School in Northeast Houston
  • Matt Barnes, co-founder and parent coach for The Education Game, helping parents equip their students as learners, and a longtime educational leader, and
  • Moderator Jaundrea Clay, reporter and editor at the Houston Chronicle, and founding editor of HouWeAre, the Chronicle’s newsletter examining the intersection of race, identity and culture in Houston.

To watch a recording of this lively and impassioned discussion covering all aspects of how we can most help our children not only survive the pandemic, but truly thrive in their education and health outcomes, click the button or image below.
