Managing Health from Community to Classroom

Managing Health from Community to Classroom

For many families, back-to-school season is not only an exciting time for both busy parents and eager students, but an opportunity for reassessing their children’s health and well-being. As summer winds down and students adjust their sleep schedules, Community Health Choice stands ready to ensure that children across the city are prepared for the school year with both school and health resources.

Earlier this week, Community President and CEO Lisa Wright appeared on KPRC-Channel 2 to share her insights on the relationship between Community-sponsored back-to-school events and an overall approach to health. During the back-to-school season, Community sponsors many events that provide students with free school supplies, as well as free health assessments and immunizations. These events are designed to keep children and their families relaxed and happy, focusing on their well-being, and include activities such as food, arts and crafts, and family-friendly fun.

During the interview, Lisa emphasized that, “Community Health Choice, of course, we are a managed-care organization, but we do recognize that in order for people to truly be able to focus on their health, you not only have to take care of your physical health, but your mental health and your social health, and so that’s why we participate in these [events].”

For parents, educators, and community members, her message is clear: An overall approach to health is essential for our children’s success and happiness. By working together and supporting these events and other initiatives, we can help ensure that students not only excel academically but also thrive in all aspects of their lives.

Let’s work together to make this school year a healthy and successful one for all our students!
