When Edna was young, she didn’t make the best decisions. School was not a priority. However, it was for her mother.
When her family lived in Mexico, her father paid for her mother’s education. Unfortunately, when they move to the United States the education she received in Mexico did not translate. It could not help her obtain the job she desired. Instead, to support her family, Edna’s mother worked two jobs – one cleaning homes during the day and a second cleaning offices at night.
Eventually, Edna’s mother decided she wanted more than that and so she decided to go back to school. Once again, Edna’s father felt it was important to support his wife and so he paid for a second education for Edna’s mother.
In her youth, Edna did not understand her mother’s desire for an education. Only after Edna grew older did her mother’s drive truly inspire her. She finally recognized the importance of having an education.
Even though Edna’s path was not always an easy one, her family’s unity kept her strong. She took to heart the words her parents taught her: “Take a moment, shake the dust off, breath and move on.” So, Edna did just that.
While Edna’s mother recently passed, her strong presence lives on. Thanks to her positive example, Edna and her family have made amazing strides in their lives.
We’re proud to support her on her journey, and we’d love to do the same for you.
